In-home Maternity Photoshoot Preparation Guide
In-home Maternity Photoshoot Prep Guide
Thank you!
Thank you for booking your photoshoot with me at this really exciting time in your life. I am looking forward to taking your photos. I just love those relaxed photos focusing on bump with a little bit of creativity thrown in.
Here are a few tips to help you prepare for your photoshoot.
Preparing Your Home
There are a few things you can do to get your home ready. When I arrive for our shoot I will walk through your home to check the rooms for light and to see which will work the best for photos. The rooms I choose will be for the light coming through the window. I usually pick the room with the softest yet brightest light. But don’t worry too much about this. I can find a spot to work with in pretty much any home.
Do declutter the main rooms eg bedroom, nursery if you have one, living room. Even if it’s the night before your shoot or on the actual morning, clear off those bedside tables. If you need to, pick a room (for example spare bedroom, garage or cupboard) and put the clutter away just for the shoot and bring it out again afterwards.
I recommend putting a neutral set of sheets on the bed, whether this be a cream or a white or similar.
I may move a sofa or a chair when I am there for the shoot. This is completely normal and I will be making the most of the light.
What to Wear
You’ll be wondering what to wear. The beauty of an in-home shoot is that you are relaxed and you are telling part of yours and baby’s story. Great items to wear for an in-home maternity shoot include:
Choose your underwear. How do you feel in it? Do you feel comfortable and supported? If you feel happy in what you are wearing you will feel more yourself for the shoot.
A comfy cardigan can look good for photos and you can adjust it to show your belly for photos.
Jeans can look good too. If you don’t fit in them any more around the belly don’t worry, we can just leave those buttons undone.
If you have one a light floaty dress have it ready.
Choose colours that are neutral or have earthen tones. Bright colours don’t photograph very well and tend to over power the photos.
If your partner/huisband/baby daddy is going to be in the shoot, a common mistake is not to iron their top. I get quite a few men turn up with crinkled tops and this is noticeable in the photo.
If you need any help please send me a message and I can help you decide on outfits.
Getting Yourself Ready
Wash your hair the day before including the hair of any siblings who may be in the photos. (However you will know your hair better and if this isn’t the right advice for your hair follow your own routine.
If you usually wear make-up please put some one. Otherwise no make-up is fine too. Just do what you normally when you go out.
If you mositurise with oils please do it the day before as oil makes your skin look really shiny. It will then be shiny on photos.
Check your nail varnish. Chipped nail varnish is noticeable in photos so either are sure its entirely off or isn’t chipped.
Posing
I will guide you through the photoshoot. I tell you how to stand and position yourself to get the best out of your photos. I will guide you through a number of poses to get different images for your gallery.
Sickness
If I am sick I will postpone the photo session.
If you or your family are sick please let me know and we will postpone the photo session until you are all well. There is no fee or loss of your booking fee to postpone your session due to sickness. If you need to message me my phone number is 021803114.
Editing Your Photos
Your digital photos will be returned up tp 4 weeks of the photo session. After our photo session I go through the photos and choose the best ones for you. They will be delivered as a private online gallery which you download to your computer. I print my photos and artwork through Queensberry, the professional-photographers’ printing company who produce high quality prints and albums.

If possible I would love to post your photos to my website, facebook page and instagram. However, if you wish to have nothing posted on my website and social media accounts, please let me know and I will respect your wishes.
